Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today visited Umbra village in Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra district, where 10 people were shot dead by a village head and 200 of his associates over a land dispute. A little more than a week ago, a report from the state government stated local police officers had sided with the accused and had deliberately delayed action over the case despite the pleas of villagers.

Jammu and Kashmir today celebrated Eid-al-Adha amid massive security restrictions, with the government sharing photos of prayers at smaller neighbourhood mosques in Srinagar as streets remained deserted and watched by security personnel. Reports said prayers were not allowed at major mosques in Srinagar and large gatherings stayed banned across the Kashmir Valley.

On Prime Time, Ravish Kumar asks whether government staff selection boards have no concern for the difficulties that job aspirants have to go through to appear for the exams. In their efforts to prevent impersonation, exam centres were allotted far away from the home districts of applicants. Over 15 lakh candidates had applied for the recruitment examinations to fill 4,863 vacancies for the post of clerks in Haryana government. Haryana state government buses as well as trains were overloaded and candidates were seen travelling on top of buses to reach the exam centres. (Audio in Hindi)
